BLOG - REFLECTIONS & INSPIRATION

I am grateful for this opportunity to share these writings with you. For me writing brings reflection, clarity, insight and healing. The real healing through writing is realizing that my need to keep quiet, is far greater than my need to express.

There are also quotes from different people. I find these to be revealing and inspirational reminders of what's important in this precious life; and for me that's to stop, and rest in the peace that's always here.

THE FOUNDATION OF SUFFERIING

Around 1975 I was living at the Sivananda Ashram in Perth Western Australia. Swami Vekatesananda was in residence at that time. He was both a renowned Sanskrit scholar and yogi, Swami Venkatesananda  like his master, Swami Sivananda, can be regarded as a sage of practical wisdom.

I have only ever remembered one thing that he spoke of while I was living there.

If there is suffering, unhappiness, separation and conflict in our lives, it will have something to do with one, or all of these three things ~

COMPARISON, EXPECTATION  &  BLAME.

So many other things are connected with these three words, but from my experience since that time, these three words are the foundation of suffering.

It was a simple, yet profound observation that he shared.

In gratitude

NAKED ~ SPIRITUALITY & COMPASSION

I was told by a friend years ago that to loose everything before I die is the greatest blessing; to experience what is going to happen when I die, before I die.

An opportunity to find out what wisdom is truly mine, without the security and support of everything I identify with, that gives me a sense of confidence, and what he called spiritual arrogance. My friend said that when we loose the house ,the relationship, the bank account the car, when we loose everything ~ in that nakedness, in that vulnerability, spirituality and compassion is born.

PREFERENCES & OPINIONS

The great way is not difficult for those who are unattached to preferences. When love and hate are both absent, everything becomes clear and undisguised.

Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart.

If you wish to see the truth, then hold no opinions for or against anything.
To set up what you like against what you dislike is the disease of the mind.

When the deep meaning of things is not understood, the minds essential peace is disturbed to no avail.

FORGET ABOUT OURSELVES

Buddha said ~ forget about your enlightenment, forget about your liberation, forget about your freedom, forget about discovering who you are ~ forget about yourself ~ and go and help others in the world.

THE SIMPLE THINGS ARE EVERYTHING

The clarity and insight that we have in our quietest moments, is just another experience, unless it translates into being more present, loving and open in the simple day to day interactions in our lives.

WHO SO EVER KNOCKS ON OUR DOOR

Who so ever knocks on our door, treat them like the most important person in the world, the person that we respect and love so much.

Who so ever knocks on our door, is that person, when we recognize them as such, we will receive the gift that they bring.

FLYING

I just found this photo from some years ago. When ever I've flown it's such an incredible feeling of been removed from the earth, from any country or place, and all that's happening down there; a neutral space, away from it all. To look out at soft mountains of clouds, it's a mystery the whole experience of flying ~ so profoundly reflective, revealing, touching and beautiful.

THE DESTINATION

Everyone in the world has decided that he is in a particular location. That location is a fixed point. Then the religions come along and proclaim that there is another fixed location that you will arrive at when you die. Now you have two points. The point where you are, and the point where you have to travel to.There's some distance involved. Then the religions lay down the rules of the journey. They will tell you that if you choose the wrong path, the wrong road to travel on, you will end up somewhere very unpleasant. They make you promises: 'If you do this, you will go to heaven when you die. If you don't, you will go to hell.'

You have looked at the situation and discovered for yourself that there is no distance between where you are right now and where you need to be. You have made an inquiry and discovered there is no distance involved.

THE INVITATION

At sunrise this morning I sat on the veranda looking out at the lagoon, the sound of rain on the roof and water running down the gutters, a cool breeze blowing, so fresh and alive as it moved my hair. The sound of bird wings as they flew overhead, bird calls come and go from all around. Trees in every shade of green, alive and gently dancing in the morning light.
So much beauty, the stillness, so alive and peaceful, so natural, simple and ordinary. Sitting this morning I realized that when I am resting in what is here, when I am simply with what is happening, there is such a profound beauty and silence that's here, and always available, no matter where I am, or what I am doing. This beauty and peace is always here with open arms, always available,

It's up to me to accept this ongoing open invitation.
